what to expect

Bowman's Secondary Level supports students in grade 6 — 12 in an important period of growth as they become increasingly independent thinkers, learners, and members of their community. Students are encouraged to question, explore, collaborate, and take greater ownership of their learning while developing a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Our Secondary program combines an authentic Montessori approach with the academic rigor and global perspective of the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. Through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP), students develop the knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and research skills needed for their next steps in education and beyond.

Secondary students are organized into the following cohorts: Grades 6–8: Coastal Redwood, Grades 9–10: Giant Sequoia, Grades 11–12: Yosemite.

learning in Secondary

As students move through the Secondary years, student agency becomes an increasingly important part of their learning. Students take initiative, pursue their interests, make choices, and collaborate with others through individual and small-group lessons, independent research, projects, service, and leadership opportunities.

This is also a time when students begin to think more deeply about their future. Through leadership opportunities, community engagement, and College & Career Advising, students are supported in discovering their strengths, interests, and possibilities for what comes next.
