COURSE OFFERINGS

In Literature and Language, students further explore and interpret the English language through writing, speaking, and reading. Students read, interpret, and respond to a variety of English literary works, as well as literature from other cultures and times. Students strengthen their writing skills through essays, poetry, research papers, and short stories.

In Language Acquisition, students work towards proficiency in a target language. Starting with Spanish and Mandarin, students choose a language and practice it weekly, learning valuable speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students continue learning grammar and vocabulary and begin to learn in context: literature studies, conversational skills, and practical life applications.

In Individuals and Societies, students critically examine, research, and discuss topics in history, government, globalization, anthropology, and current events. During their time in Secondary, students investigate and gain deeper understandings of World History and American history.

Science courses allow students to solve problems and get acquainted with research. All science courses are laboratory-based, with frequent interdisciplinary correlations with Mathematics, Individuals & Societies, Literature and Language, and The Arts.

The mathematics curriculum is integrated in nature, allowing students to develop both breadth and depth across multiple areas of mathematics while making practical connections between mathematical concepts and the world around them. Integrated Math follows the California-approved pathway and covers the equivalent content of Math and Geometry 1 and 2. Mathematics learning continues to be individualized, with all courses aligned to California and Common Core standards.

The Arts invite students to imagine, explore, and think creatively, while developing the ability to look at ideas and experiences from different perspectives. Through engagement with the arts and their cultural contexts, students build curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the ways creative expression shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Design gives students the opportunity to turn ideas into action through a practical, hands-on process. By working through the complete design cycle, students identify challenges, develop creative solutions, test their ideas, and refine their work.

Along the way, students consider how design shapes the world around them and explore the responsibilities that come with creating solutions. Design encourages students to approach problems with curiosity and thoughtful decision-making.

Physical and Health Education encourages students to develop an appreciation for movement and an understanding of how physical activity contributes to overall well-being. Through both participation and study, students build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to make thoughtful, healthy choices.

Physical and Health Education also supports a balanced approach to wellness, helping students develop habits that nurture their physical health while also supporting mental and emotional well-being. Through physical activity and reflection, students gain a deeper understanding of the connection between a healthy body, mind, and spirit.
