UPPER ELEMENTARY

GRADES 4 — 5

In Upper Elementary, students continue developing their ability to think abstractly while becoming increasingly aware of morality, justice, and their relationships with others. They are eager to ask deeper questions, consider multiple perspectives, and better understand their role within both their classroom community and the wider world. This stage is supported through collaborative projects that strengthen independence, cooperation, leadership, and effective communication.

Students continue to receive individualized and small-group lessons while taking greater ownership of their learning by planning their schedules in one-week increments. Each year also includes a Special Project, including Collections, and the MEA FAMILIA project, providing opportunities for students to pursue their interests, conduct in-depth research, and share their learning with the community.

PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Our Upper Elementary curriculum encourages students to think critically, make meaningful connections across disciplines, and take increasing ownership of their learning. Through inquiry, collaboration, and in-depth exploration, students deepen their understanding while developing the confidence and skills to tackle more complex ideas.
