ELEMENTARY

GRADES K — 5

To make it clear whether or not a child has understood, we should see whether he can form a vision of it within the mind, whether he has gone beyond the level of mere understanding.Dr. Maria Montessori | To Educate the Human Potential, p. 10

what to expect

our teacher–to–student ratio is 1:10

Elementary is a time of expanding curiosity, growing independence, and deeper thinking. As children enter the Second Plane of Development, they begin asking bigger questions, making connections across subjects, and moving from concrete to abstract thinking. At Bowman, students are encouraged to think critically, pursue their interests, and develop a strong sense of responsibility, collaboration, and respect for others.

Our Lower Elementary (K – Grade 3) and Upper Elementary (Grades 4 – 5) classrooms provide the freedom to learn at an individualized pace while engaging in meaningful, hands-on work and collaborative projects. Modeled after Dr. Maria Montessori's Great Lessons, students explore big ideas that spark imagination and inquiry across every area of the curriculum. As they deepen their understanding, they build confidence as communicators, creative problem-solvers, and thoughtful members of both their classroom community and the wider world.
