Second Plane of Development

Dr. Montessori described ages 6 to 12 as the Second Plane of Development, a time when children begin to move beyond simply absorbing information and instead seek to understand the why behind it. They are eager to ask questions, reason through ideas, and make connections between what they already know and the world around them.

During this stage, children experience a growing imagination, an expanding sense of morality and fairness, and an increasing awareness of their role within both their community and the wider world. Bowman's Elementary Level nurtures these emerging qualities through meaningful inquiry, collaboration, and exploration, empowering children to think critically, pursue their interests, and develop into compassionate, responsible citizens.
